y'all i just bought 256GB of storage for €19 in a physical store. that's more than twice as much as my main phone has and half as much as my laptop. and i had to ask the person at the checkout several times whether that was really the correct price 😭

β€ͺi would've bought 512GB if they had it but i was already expecting a sticker shock because i just assumed the price at checkout would be twice as much. i. god‬

@hikari yes, it costs more to get some of the highest-performance storage on the market than it does to get low-speed low-endurance storage of a similar size

@rcombs i am aware of the fact that that this is ssd storage yes. which obviously justifies the pricing corresponding 2017's retail nvme ssd prices

@rcombs @hikari Apple unfortunately no longer sells high-performance storage. Which is sad because they did back in like 2014

Iwasawa 🌟 (one hikari of too many)

(replying to Saagar Jha)

@saagar @rcombs not surprising because high performance means many flash chips and apple's obscene pricing strategy means they want to sell you as little storage as possible, ergo not enough flash chips to be fast

@hikari @rcombs idk how modern NVMe drives work tbh but I know that they didn’t use to be 5x faster than Apple’s

this is actually breaking my brain 256GB for €19 is so cheap it would not even feel like an β€œindulgence” to me even when i don't have an income. 256GB is like three times the size of my music library. for… what, two trips to mcdonald's? it's unfathomable

IN A PHYSICAL STORE IN A MALL. i wasn't even hunting around for bargains online. this is the most expensive way to buy. and i didn't even have to look for the cheap options they try to hide away, these were the main options.

i am the proverbial victorian child rn i'm not joking
