doing research and development work for a corporation, in some industries at least, means dedicating a huge part of your brain to secrets that, once you leave, you are expected to take to the grave with you. it's pretty taxing if you find those secrets interesting at all

@hikari
And that's why I have no sympathy for those sellouts that decide to sign a NDA. In related news, that's why I loathe the many employees at Cover Corporation and Anycolor Incorporated

@csolisr I can't accept the notion that employers' choices become the employee's moral failing

@hikari
There is a step where it does, and it's when someone who is not yet an employee decides to impose restrictions on oneself in order to work for a certain company. About the only way that such failing is not by personal choice is when the company has an unjust monopoly on that specific field of work

@csolisr all employment relationships involve restrictions, and they're not meaningfully self-imposed

I guess nature's nda expiry is that eventually that information becomes so outdated by the power of continual advancement and so corrupted by the fallibility of human memory that even if you told someone everything, at some point it wouldn't matter

I'm not going anywhere with this, it's just a thing

@hikari [hikari’s employer’s lawyers would like to remind you that their trade secrets are protected by NDA, and will pursue civil and criminal charges to the fullest extent permitted by law when necessary to protect their intellectual property]
